Report on the Gold Coast Event
Unfortunately, our plans to
conduct the 'Drumming In.." as a 'free-spirit' event on the
beach with flares and tribal fire did eventuate due to
increasingly cloudy weather, with pending rain and a fresh
breeze on the beachfront.
Our fall-back location at Gecko House (the Headquarters of
Australia's Gold Coast and Hinterland Environment Council)
proved a good alternative.
It did start raining lightly, and by about 9 pm Qld (Australian
EST) time, a core group of drummers, musicians and spectators
drifted in. It was a beautiful atmosphere, a typical balmy Gold
Coast summer evening.
Peace candles were burning all around the room, proving a very
spiritual and warm atmosphere. With musicians and spectators
alike seated in circle around the room, we started with Kyle's
peaceful guitar solo, then launched into the hour of drumming,
using my brand new Lakota Style American Native drum providing
the timing, commencing with a simple heartbeat rhythm, then
building different rhythms during the hour in 'free spirit'.
We had about 20 drummers, and
3 Aboriginal Didgeridoos playing at different times, with one
Didgeridoo player (Kyle) lasting for the entire hour (how he
managed breathing & playing the 'Didge' like that for an hour I
don't know) - the atmosphere was great!
We even had some visitors from
Majorca come to listen. Interestingly, almost half the
group were, or had, German background.
It was really great watching the faces, and listening to the
different rhythms coming from the individuals, but in unison. My
drum became the modulator which took the volume up and down to
bring on softer passages, where the 'Didges' could come to
the fore.
On the hour, I finished with
an rapidly increasing beat, with the other drummers following,
coming to crescendo, and then a final single resounding
beat, and - silence!
It was magical, and after a few minutes silence everyone broke
up into groups and started chatting excitedly. Most were really
knocked out at just the thought of having drummed in unison with
all the sites around the World!
Our very special thanks to the All-One-Tribe Foundation for the
great job in organising this Awesome Global Event! We look
forward to receiving details of other events around the Globe!
We hope to continue the 'Unity of all tribes' theme here on
Australia's Gold Coast, and plan to still conduct our 'Beach
Event' later this year, in the true spirit of our Original
Vision, and with people from 'All Tribes' participating.

History:
"Drumming in the Year 2000" was a truly International Event,
initiated by the non-profit 'All One Tribe Foundation' based in
Taos, New Mexico.
Note:
Unfortunately the
All One Tribe Foundation had to close its doors, so we cannot
provide a link to this Organisation any longer.
The event was directed towards
'World Peace', and was staged in honour of the World's
Indigenous Peoples, as part of the United Nations 'International
Decade of the World's Indigenous Peoples (1994 - 2004)'.
The drum has been emerging as the transformational tool of our
time. Because the drum-beat is a universal, vibrational language
which communes with the Earth and all her creatures, the drum
has come to symbolise our Unity as Earth-family citizens.
Many of the Events were covered by Satellite and Broadcast
Worldwide.
Rituals for Healing and for Peace were enacted in many of the
locations around the Globe. When the Year 2000 had arrived in
the final time zone (midnight GMT), there was one hour of
focussed, simultaneous drumming across the Globe.
"As We Drum, We Are One" was sung in many languages of the
World.
'Saph Natural
Healing' was proud to be
coordinating activities for the above event on Australia's Gold
Coast.
